Measurements of atmospheric muon spectra at mountain altitude
We report new measurements of the atmospheric muons at mountain altitude. The measurement was carried out with the BESS detector at the top of Mt. Norikura, Japan. The altitude is 2,770 m above sea level. Comparing our results with predictions given by some interaction models, a further appropriate model has been investigated. It would improve accuracy of atmospheric neutrino calculations.
متن کاملMountain torques and atmospheric oscillations
Theoretical work and general circulation model (GCM) experiments suggest that themidlatitude jet stream’s interaction with large-scale topography can drive intraseasonal oscillations in large-scale atmospheric circulation patterns. In support of this theory, we present new observational evidence that mountain-induced torques play a key role in 15–30-day oscillations of the Northern Hemisphere c...

متن کاملCounting Mountain-Valley Assignments for Flat Folds
We develop a combinatorial model of paperfolding for the purposes of enumeration. A planar embedding of a graph is called a crease pattern if it represents the crease lines needed to fold a piece of paper into something. A flat fold is a crease pattern which lies flat when folded, i.e. can be pressed in a book without crumpling. Given a crease pattern C = (V, E), a mountain-valley (MV) assignme...
متن کاملMountain Torques and Intraseasonal Atmospheric Oscillations
Broad-peak intraseasonal oscillations in large-scale Northern Hemisphere atmospheric circulation patterns provide a basis for extended-range weather prediction, given an understanding of the underlying mechanisms. Theoretical work and general circulation model (GCM) experiments suggest that the midlatitude jet stream's interaction with large-scale topography can drive such oscillations through ...
